tolkien and books
There seems to be a debate on whether J. R. R. Tolkien, John Ronald Reil Tolkien, helped inspire metal or not. I think he absolutley did. A few examples are Amon Amarth, Cirith ungol, and there was a metal band named gollum but they recently changed it. Those bands have names from tolkiens work while other bands such as Led Zepplin have wriiten songs about lord of the rings. Also tolkien is thanked and mentioned many times in the magazine Metal Hammer, also known as the heavy metal bible. Another thing is Tolkiens religion was odinism. Which means he believed in the gods Odin, Thor, Loki and so on, also is tied in with the vikings (Amon Amarth). Another thing is the theme for lord of the rings is about sacrificing yourself to save others and that there is always hope. Which is what about half of metal is about while the other half is that dark fantasy part. (Which I love) So what do you think, did Tolkien help inspire metal?
