This poem is about the change in people over the years, and how memories from the past keep popping up, happy memories, ones that you should smile at. But you don't because all of that is gone, it is only a video tape inside your head, replaying, and you are not sure you could ever be like that again. What many people do not realize is... they can change...

Repeating in your head
Like a broken tape,
A keepsake.

Beautiful Memories
Pass behind your eyes
They always make you want to cry.

Because you realize
That that is not you anymore,
It is someone you left behind.

The smile in your mind
Turns into a grimace in time,
And you’re afraid, afraid of change,
And afraid of the memories seeping back,
Back into your mind.

Your heart brakes even more,
And your sanity is fleeting,
Where do you go now?
At least your memories are always waiting.

But you can’t stay forever,
It isn’t always safe in your memories
Behind a black door,
There is always darkness waiting.

Beneath the peaceful memories,
Pain and Hate are smiling
With open arms waiting to embrace
And devour your every being.

Will you succumb?
Or will you fight with every ounce of your broken life?
Will you give up and let your soul slip by?
Or will you try; try to destroy the darkness that is
Always waiting?
